Bij de stichting van de parochie was origineel de kerk te Buizegem, verlaten rond 1390 voor de huidige kerk in het dorp. Vóór de zeventiende eeuw was de parochie gewijd aan Onze-Lieve-Vrouw, daarna aan Onze-Lieve-Vrouw en Sint-Antonius Eremijt. Na de Franse Revolutie werd onder Napoleon het huidige kerkfabriek gesticht in 1809. «
